Logbook Loans Explained: How to Unlock Cash From Your Car

3 min read

If you own your vehicle free of any existing loan, its logbook is more than paperwork — it's collateral you can borrow against without giving up the car.

How it works. You hand over your original logbook as security, and Moti Kenya issues a loan against the vehicle's assessed value (typically a percentage of its market value, not the full amount). You keep driving the car for the full loan term.

What it's good for. Business capital, emergency expenses, school fees, or bridging finance — anything where you need cash quickly and would rather not sell an asset you rely on.

What to watch for. Because your logbook is held as security, missed repayments put the vehicle at risk, same as any secured loan. Only borrow what you can comfortably repay within the term, and use our Finance Calculator to check the real monthly cost before committing.

Once the loan is repaid in full, your logbook is returned and the vehicle is fully yours again — free of any encumbrance.
